Hello, I'm a new member and I've joined as I volunteer for the charity DogLost which helps reunite missing and stolen dogs with their owners. The charity which operates via the website www.doglost.co.uk/ has built up a lot of expertise in this area. I hope we can be of mutual help.
For the moment: we have having another push to find the missing greyhound which raced as PURPLE MONKEY at Brighton & Hove.
This striking steel grey and white greyhound is missing believed stolen [ie possibly picked up and kept, possibly snatched in home locale], and is much missed by the owner with whom he was re-homed. She has been searching tirelessly for him since he went missing in Chobham, Surrey in the summer of last year. There were a few reported local sightings which may or may not have been of him, but then nothing. He is tattooed and microchipped and I believe he is still entire so may be being used at stud.
The owner's tel numbers are 07840 169888 or 01483 222104
All info treated in confidence of course!!
This is his poster: www.doglost.co.uk/poster.asp?ID=9827
Some history from his page on DogLost, www.doglost.co.uk/forum.asp?ID=9827
posts from Patsy the volunteer who has been liaising with owner:
<< Jilly, his owner, and also his previous racing owners and trainer, have given their permission for this to now be released as he may have been stolen for unaffiliated racing, or 'flapping races' (although we have no proof of this). Please call Jilly for the full story. All I shall say on here is that he raced under the name Purple Monkey and was quite successful. He could have gone back to Ireland to stand at stud, but had nice owners who wanted him to have a good life, living out his retirement as a family pet in a rural environment - which is how he came to Jilly. He only retired from racing last Christmas [ie 2006]. His previous owners, trainer and kennel staff are all watching this page hoping for good news. Lots of work going on behind the scenes to try and track him down. But we are also still postering locally in case he has been taken in. No news from supposed sightings in Woking and Chobham areas...... >>
A month later:
<< Had a long talk on the phone with Jilly, his owner, yesterday evening .....She is encouraged by the wonderful response received from kind people she has contacted via various greyhound racing/flapping websites, small unofficial tracks in Wales and the north of England. These are kind, sympathetic people, who care about their greyhounds. With their help, (and ........'s computer skills!!) she has sent Monkey's poster and details, including his tattoo number, to all the handicappers at all small, unaffilated tracks in England, Wales and Scotland. It is the handicapper at each meeting who checks the dogs' ID. Jilly is determined to finish contacting all the Irish tracks this week. Also all dogwardens and gipsy liaison officers are to be contacted again locally. Monkey went missing over the Derby weekend, which may be significant. In the meantime, I have been re-postering locally ...... >>
There was a local tipoff a month after that, ie August, that Monkey might be being held at a caravan site [travellers] in the Horsley/Effingham direction, but it wasn't possible to ID the dog. A month after that, a Patterdale terrier [of which a hundred or so have been stolen in the last year nationwide!] was also stolen from the same farming estate. Coincidence? And a little later two working Jack Russells belonging to the local hunt were also stolen from their nearby home.
Personally I wonder if 'animal rights' activists might be involved here...
Just in case you can think of any avenue to explore, or contacts who might display Monkey's poster, esp eg in their car when going to the dogs, here it is again:

It can be emailed out directly from the link posted above to Monkey's page
Thanks for any help
